Football hooliganism Essays

Football hooliganism Essays Football hooliganism Paper Football hooliganism Paper Football hooliganism is demonstrations of viciousness, bigotry, insulting and vandalism submitted by individuals around football occasions and during games. These have unfavorable impacts of the game frequently giving it terrible exposure, yet it isn't only a cutting edge wonder. Hooliganism has been around since medieval occasions when game had nearly nothing if any guidelines it was played at celebrations and simply had a point. During this period sport was incidentally blamed so as to settle the score with an opponent. Contentions were frequently settled in these challenges which brought about numerous players get truly harmed. During the only remaining century sport on the field has gotten considerably more enlightened and regarded, anyway off the field it very well may be similarly as grim as in medieval occasions. In my report I will be focussing on: The history and advancement of hooliganism throughout the years, I will investigation into the historical backdrop of hooliganism and how its changed especially over the nineteenth century The techniques the specialists have created to stop it, I will inquire about the police activity and new strategies for getting the cutting edge convict. The history and improvement of hooliganism Hooliganism first began in quite a while, a game called crowd football was played on uncommon events it included the men from two adversary towns playing one another, there was no guidelines only a point which was to get an item to a pre-concurred place. This game was very ruff and was frequently used to settle contentions, which brought about many harms and in some cut off cases demise. : Throughout the years hooliganism has proceeded onward, in the alleged honorable pre-war time where one ponders sportsmanship and gamesmanship little had changed. Uproars attacks and general ignoble conduct occurred. Albeit no precise figures are accessible on the recurrence of such scenes, the detailed degrees of brutality and disorder ought to be sufficient to remove any sentimentality about the conduct of polite fans. A study of the reports drove Hutchinson to the end that: Riots, rowdy conduct, brutality, ambush and vandalism, seem to have been a settled, however not really prevailing example of group conduct at football coordinates at any rate from the 1870s Most instances of hooliganism happen when players or the group imagine that there have been shameful acts. A few students of history speculate that in light of the fact that there isn't numerous reports of group trouble making during the pre-war time, comparative with the plenitude of announced attacks on players and authorities. That this focuses not to the nonappearance of such viciousness but instead to the permissive mentality toward swarm unsettling influences that didn't really meddle with the game. This might be clarified by the way that, inside the arena, it was the arbitrator who detailed occurrences to the FA. In the event that viciousness tipped onto the field he would think of it as an issue; in the event that it spilled onto the avenues it turned into the issue of the town police; however on the off chance that it was contained inside the stands it generally went unreported. During the 1960s there was a flood in the frequencies of hooliganism and the Chester report of 1966, rates of football brutality multiplied in the initial five years of the 1960s contrasted with the past 25 years. The United Kingdom is seen by practically all onlookers in Europe, and by football fans themselves, as having had the soonest and most extreme issues with football hooliganism. It is the main country to have gotten a sweeping removal from all European Football rivalries a boycott that was at first made for an inconclusive period following the Heysel Stadium disaster in which 39 Juventus fans passed on when a divider fallen after conflicts with Liverpool supporters.

But it’s also true. Even when people get along really well, stress and daily life can cause conflicts that seem difficult or even impossible to resolve. Relationship counseling can help people in these tough situations to work through their problems, move beyond them, and be better partners overall. When to Seek Relationship Therapy Many people believe that you should only seek relationship counseling when separation or divorce are looming. But that is often too little, too late. Relationship therapy should begin as soon as the problems get in the way of your daily life. Here are some signs that you might benefit from a consultation: You have trouble expressing your feelings to one anotherYou have one or more unsolvable disagreementThere is withdrawal, criticism, or contempt in your interactionsA stressful event has shaken your daily lifeYou have trouble making decisions togetherYou experienced infidelity, addiction, or potential abuseYou want a stronger relationship Remember that there are no wrong reasons to seek relationship counseling. Some couples start therapy as soon as they are married, even without obvious problems, to prevent serious problems from developing. Counselors can help you become a better communicator, develop strong relationship skills, and improve your family’s happiness.   Keep in mind that the average couple waits six years before seeking therapy. This is a lot of time to let problems fester; at this point, troubled relationships are difficult to save. It is therefore important to acknowledge problems early and seek therapy as soon as possible. Problems with relationships are not limited to romantic ones, even though that’s the most popular reason people consult for relationship therapy. Relationship therapy isn’t just for married people: cohabiting couples, people in non-monogamous relationships and LGBTQ people can also benefit. It can also be helpful for siblings dealing with family issues, or even business partners! Premarital Counseling Premarital counseling is a type of relationship therapy that helps prepare couples to enter into a long-term commitment. This type of counseling focuses on helping couples develop a strong and healthy relationship before marriage and identify any potential problems that might lead to issues down the road. Some of the relationship issues that might be addressed during premarital counseling include: Values and beliefsRoles and responsibilitiesSex and affectionFinancesCommunicationWhether or not to have childrenParenting choicesFamily relationships This type of relationship counseling can be a good way to establish realistic expectations and develop healthy communication skills that will set a marriage off to a good start. How to Find a Relationship Therapist There are a number of professionals who can offer relationship therapy, including clinical psychologists, registered marriage and family therapists, licensed counselors, and licensed clinical social workers. Remember that even though their title says “marriage”, you do not need to be married to benefit from relationship counseling.   Although going to the internet is most peoples first impulse when looking for a therapist, asking for references from people you know is a more effective way to start. If you live in an urban area, there are probably hundreds of qualified therapists, and making the choice can be overwhelming. If people you know have successfully worked with a therapist, theres a good chance they might work for you too. If you cant find references from people you know, there are many other ways to find a qualified therapist, such as professional directories. You can even seek out online relationship counseling, if that is more convenient for you and your partner. Take advantage of the free consultation that many therapists offer for potential new clients. This is a great time to see if the particular counselor suits your needs, style, and budget. Therapist-client relationships can affect your life in many profound ways, and you should choose wisely. How to Find the Best Therapist for Your Mental Health Online Relationship Counseling If traditional face-to-face therapy wont work for you and your partner, online counseling can be a great option. There are a number of reasons why you might want to try online therapy: You and your partner live in different locations. This might apply to people who are in long-distance relationships or those who are separated and considering a permanent split. Online therapy services give both partners the option to participate even though they live apart. You travel frequently for work. Online options allow people to benefit from counseling no matter how busy their schedule is or where in the world they are located. You or your partner are not comfortable with traditional therapy. Face-to-face therapy can be challenging, uncomfortable, or even anxiety-provoking for some people. Web-based solutions can make relationship counseling more accessible. Online relationship counseling services utilize tools such as online chats, video sessions, and phone calls where couples can talk to each other and their therapist. You and your partner will work to create goals that you would like to achieve in therapy, which may include addressing problems related to communication, arguments, or infidelity.   The 6 Best Online Marriage Counseling Programs of 2020 What to Expect The first few sessions will focus on your history and the problems you are there to solve. Be prepared to answer questions about your relationship, your parents, your childhood, and relationship experiences before your current one. Your therapist will possibly want to spend some time talking to everyone together and to each member separately. The way your therapy is going to go depends on the style of your counselor and the therapeutic approach they use. The most studied style of relationship therapy is emotionally-focused therapy, or EFT. EFT is based on attachment theory, and aims to foster healthy interdependency between members of the couple or family. Other types of relationship therapy include Imago therapy and the Gottman method. Ask your counselor which method they are trained in and which one they think is most suited to your situation. How to Make Relationship Therapy Effective Effective therapy depends not only on the skills and experience of the counselor but also on the willingness of the clients. There are many things you can do to make your relationship counseling more effective. Be Honest Do not lie to your therapist. Sometimes we lie because we dont want to be judged. However, your therapists job is not to judge you but to help you. Stay honest, even when its hard. Prepare Yourself for Discomfort Therapy can often cause discomfort because you are discovering new truths about yourself, not all of them nice or happy. Working on yourself requires that you sit with your discomfort and acknowledge that you need to grow and improve. Your therapist is there to help but ultimately is it up to you to do the work. Listen to Your partner(s) Whether you are doing relationship therapy with one person or a larger family group, its important to listen to what others have to say. Remaining on the defensive and trying to reply to everything that others bring up about your behavior is only going to make things more difficult for everyone. Put in the Time Therapy happens just as much in sessions as between them. Your counselor might give you homework or ask you to try new patterns of communication and interaction in between appointments. Its going to take time and effort, but remember that it is worth it. In the end, its the work that all members of the relationship put in that makes a difference in the results of the therapy. Do not expect the therapist to be a wizard whos going to make all your problems disappear. Consult early, engage honestly in the process, and do the work. If Your Partner Refuses Therapy Even if you believe that your relationship can benefit from therapy, your partner might not be willing to participate. So what can you do in this situation? It is important to remember that you cannot force your partner into counseling. All you can ultimately do is see a therapist on your own and work on issues you are facing as an individual.   An Overview of Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy

I am still working on how the database should work. Once I have figured this out, I will create the database. After I create the database, I will create an interface, and then style it. We will write a custom essay sample on The Rise and Decline of the Socialist party in America or any similar topic only for you Order Now Socialism as a political idea is based on cooperative ownership and redistribution of goods, services, and production. The Socialist Party of America was one faction whose roots are based in socialism. Created in 1901, the SPA was formed by the combination of the Social Democratic Party of America, a short lived movement, and the Social Labor Party, a working man’s party. This combination attracted new members, as well as members from the progressive and populist parties, which made up the majority of the SPA. The rise of the Socialist Party of America was fueled by the working mans desire for a utopian society. Campaign promises for public ownership of utilities, better sanitation, and a social security program, at local levels, led to the party’s highpoint in 1912. These small successes were short lived. The American citizens sense of individualism and pride as well as a lack in acquiring news members and support set the wheels of failure in motion. The party’s staunch opposition to involvement in World War I and the expulsion of its members led to The Socialist Party’s final moment. Faction polarization within the party crippled a once unified front, and finally President Roosevelt’s â€Å"New Deal† legislation effectively silenced the American Socialist party. The lineage of the Socialist Party of America (SPA) can be traced back to the early 1850s. The United States was a bustling nation full of opportunity. Endless new eginnings and freedoms appealed to European citizens who were looking for a better life. Seeking a better life, a boom in 1850 brought 1,713,000 immigrants through Ellis island, bringing along with them their philosophical ideas of socialisml . The failed German revolution of 1848 procured the emigration of Germans to America. Some of these immigrants were the intellectual leaders of the failed revolution, but most were impoverished Germans that lost confidence in their government to provide for them the basic necessities of life. Along with Germans, Italians, Finns, Jews, Hungarians, Ukrainians, Bohemians and Russians came to America toting their socialist values2. Finns were particularly strong in their socialists ideas. Settling in the Midwest, former Finnish citizens imported a revolutionary perspective of socialism to Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan3. Into the 19th century, German immigrants settling in Midwestern cities such as Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Dayton, Ohio, and St. Louis, Missouri put fourth major inputs and provided body to the growth of socialism in the United States. Immigrants to the United States were not the only ones seeking change. The philosophy ot socialism in the states was viewed witn no interest by American itizens. This has to do with the character of American culture and our views. American culture has maintained a faith in individualism, economic advancement, and equal opportunity in the marketplace4. In short, Americans put their faith in capitalism. But capitalism does not always deal everyone a fair hand and there are inconsistencies in the market. This led to formation of radical, third party socialist based movements in America’s traditional two party political spectrum. These third parties were viewed as radical because during the 1850’s to the 1930’s there was an expression of deep distrust towards the expansion and ntervention of states by citizens concerning their private affairs5. Alternatives to socialism were made. The Progressive party’s programs of modest state intervention through federal legislative mandate to preserve individual rights, entrepreneurial values, and the fundamental capitalist structure, appealed to many Americans as a moderate alternative to socialism6. The Populist party was one other third party movement the dabbled in socialist ideas. Running on a platform of government intervention to offset economic troubles and preventing poverty in farming and orking class families ultimately led to the majority of the party consisting of farming and working class families. Many Populists would leave to become socialists7. Out of these movements, a man named Eugene V. Debs would step forward to ignite and unite what would ultimately be known as the Socialist Party of America. Eugene â€Å"Gene† Victor Debs Was born in Terre Haute, Indiana on November 5th, 1855 and died October 20th, 1926 in Elmhurst, Illinois at the age of 70 years old. Debs was one of the founding members of the Industrial Workers of the World (IWW), a founding member of the American Railway Union and a democrat in the Indiana General Assembly. Eugene Debs would leave behind a legacy as being the most well known Socialist in the United States8. In 1894, the American railroad car manufacturer Pullman Company reduced hours and wages but not rents on housing for their workers. This resulted in a strike by the employees who then had Joined Debs’s American Railway Union. The strike was broken up by President Grover Cleveland and Debs was imprisoned for failing to oppose the strike as leader of the ARU9. In prison Debs passed time by reading work written by Karl Marx. Released in 1895, Debs had become a socialist who believed apitalism should be replaced by a new cooperative system. Debs was for advocated radical reform, but was opposed to the revolutionary violence supported by some well known left-wing political movements10. In 1897 Debs Joined Victor Berger to form the Social Democratic Party (SDP). The SDP was a short lived socialist movement that ran Eugene Debs as a candidate in the 1900 presidential election. After receiving only . 6% of the votes, the Social Democratic party combined with the even smaller faction, the Socialist Labor Party of Americal 1 creating the Socialist Party of America SPA) in 1901. The newly created SPA attracted members with various ties to socialism. Between the years ot 1 1 to 1912, the party grew trom 1 members to under 1 The demographic locations of theses voters ranged from the East coast to the West coast with the majority of party members being in Midwestern states. The SPA drew support from Progressives, Populist farmers across the heartland, unions and unionists with the most voting 2 strength coming from immigrants. 13 The socialist Journal Appeal to Reason14, a mixture of articles and extracts from radical socialism based authors such as Karl Marks and Tom Paine, was selling 500,000 copies a week. Thus giving a way to advertise their ideas and party platform. The strength of the SPA was determined by the people who used a vote to cast their voice. Local level victories dotted the map from East to West. New York state and New Jersey were two states that had consistent SPA voters due to immigrants. The Midwest proved to be where the highest concentration of SPA members resided. Ohio, Michigan, Illinois and Wisconsin were the strong holds made up of German immigrants and Populist farmers. SPA members running as candidates tried to appeal to the working man. Public ownership of utilities, better city sanitation services for the poor, better labor standards and a social security program elected 70 mayors into officel 5. SPA victories at the federal level were small. Eugene Debs ran as a presidential candidate in every election between 1900 and 1912, and once in 1920. 1900’s election was dismal. Debs received only . 6% of the popular vote. In 1904 Debs Ran again and received an increase in votes, 402,810 3% of the popular vote. Voter turnout in the 1908 election was slightly higher, 420,793 votes for Debs. The election of 1912 showed the Socialist Party of Americas highpoint. There was 117,984 members of the SPA, and Eugene Debs got a total of 901 ,551 votes, 6% of the popular vote. This was the most impressive showing of any presidential candidate in any United States election. 6 At the outbreak of World War I in 1914, the SPA took a staunch opposition against the war. They were opposed to all international wars but not opposed to class warfare. This opposition to the war caused membership to decline and started conflict within the party itself. In 1919, The left Wing Section of the Socialist party emerged as a faction inside the Socialis t Party of America. During an election to elect new board members of the SPA, it was seen that the Left Wing Section of the Socialist party was going to gain the majority of seats. Those not in the faction decided against this and said that votes were cast in fraudulent manners. These votes were not tallied and the whole election was rejected. On the 24th of May, 1919 the leadership expelled 20,000 members who supported the Soviet government. The process continued and by the beginning of July two-thirds of the party had been suspended or expelled. These expelled members would soon Join together to for the Communist Party of America. The growth of radicals worried President Cleveland and his administration. America soon entered into the Red Scare. On 7th November, 1919, the second anniversary of the Russian Revolution, over 10,000 suspected communists and anarchists were arrested in what became known as the Palmer Raids. No evidence a revolution was tound but many radicals were still kept in Jaill As a result ot these raids people were afraid to Join leftist radical parties out of fear of being called a communist, which could result in the deportation to Russia. 3 On October 20th 1926, Eugene Debs died and Norman Thomas replaced him as he leader of the Socialist Party of America. Thomas ran as a presidential candidate in the election preceding his rise to leadership, but the SPA was weak. Thomas did not get as many votes as Debs due to socialist ideas creeping into President Franklin Roosevelt’s (FDR) agenda. In response to the great depression, FDR created his â€Å"New Deal† to ease burdens on families trying to cope. The 1st new deal, FDR’s First 100 days, created programs like the civilian conservation corps, the Tennessee Valley Authority and the Agricultural Adjustment bureau. These programs dabbled in socialist ideals . The Agricultural Adjustment bureau in particular appealed to Populist-SPA farmers because it was a form of entitlements that helped a struggling farmer. Roosevelt’s 2nd New Deal appealed most to SPA members. It called for a Social Security act, the creation ofa labor board and a Fair Labor Standard act. These policies answered what the Socialist Party of America had been trying to push. As a result Norman Thomas urged his supporters to vote Democrat and the Socialist Party of America was turned into no more then a doctrinal sect. The immigration boom in the late 1800s brought Socialism to the United States. The formation of the Populist and Progressive parties as alternatives to socialism started a movement of Socialist political parties. After converting his views to socialism, Eugene Debs united these small factions into the Socialist Party of America. The party achieved victories among local politics in the states, Midwestern states being a reliable stronghold. After presidential runs by Eugene Debs from 1900 to 1912, the SPA’s highpoint came in 1912 with 117,984 members. Internal breakdown caused party members to turn on each other which resulted in member suspension. How to cite The Rise and Decline of the Socialist party in America, Papers

Your Name Essay Instructor NameCourse NumberDateTitle: SubtitleThe Flea, a witty poem of seduction and conceit, taken from JohnDonnes Songs and Sonets is the poem that I have chosen to compareto Song, another poem of John Donnes where he is passionatelypleading with his wife not to be disheartened about his departureabroad. Both poems which belong to Songs and Sonets, written around thetime of the 16th century, show that their title suggests they are bothshort poems, following the traditional form of a sonnet, consisting offourteen lines. However, they are not songs in the conventionalsense we think of and none of them are written as a sonnet. In fact,Donnes poems were intended for circulation around his local pub,Lincolns Inn, where he could impress his male friends with hisbawdy poetic nature. The Flea, emphatically rejects the Petrarchan tradition of lovepoetry, where the woman is seen as a goddess, an object of desireworth worshipping by a man. Instead, Donne wrote poems that saw theearthy reali ty of sexual relations between a man and woman. The poem, whose historical convention probably started with Ovid, shows that itwas common in Elizabethan times to envy a flea for its access to thefemale body. Donne throughout the poem makes references to the flea, presenting a conceit produced of wit, integrity and persuasion. The title, which presents the conceit, is in fact the structure of thepoem, the entire poem depends on this conceit. At first, this is apuzzling image to the reader, it seems bizarre and inappropriate. However, as the poem continues, Donnes argument does also, and we seehow reality is conveyed by the vivid imagery of the flea. Donne usesa three-part syllogism in this poem which he delivers in a matter-of-fact- tone: It sucked me first, and now sucks theeAnd in this flea, our two bloods mingled beHere Donne shows manipulation towards the woman. He reveals anattitude that is persuasive, but manipulative by saying that sincethey are one in the flea, they should make l ove anyway, seeing as theyare already joined. I question whether this is love, or lust?Donne presses on with his argument, he develops a series ofpersuasions to attempt his mistress into bed with him: How little that thou denyst me is.Here, Donne is again being manipulative; he is scornful and isappealing to her to see how desperate he is for her to agree. Byusing a triple structure, he is appealing to her knowledge and isshowing emphasis: Thou knowst that this cannot be saidA sinne, nor shame, nor loss of maiden headHere Donne has asked his mistress not to kill the flea, cleverlyrevealing that it would be suicide since both her and Donne are joinedas one in this flea. He uses a hyperbole, the deliberate exaggerationof saying this would be a murder, thus creates effect. He usesemotional blackmail and accusatory towards his mistress. However, theargument is turned around, when she retorts that neither of them areworse off in this act, to which he proceeds a mock concession, pretending to give into her point. The final few lines of the finalstanza show a reversal. Donne agrees with his mistress argument, hecan see how she would be right when she claims that killing a flea isso unimportant. However, there is a clever finish to Donnesargument, and one that reveals a lot about his attitude to love andwomen. He shows impudence and confidence when he says that no harmhas been done, equally there would there be no harm done if they wereto make love. This shows how he thinks the act of love is so little,he is comparing it to the killing of a flea, a creature so small.Donne reveals his attitude to women throughout this whole poem. Isthis a poem of love, seduction or lust? It is indeed genuinelypersuasive and a poem that certainly carries an intellectual argumentthroughout, but is the poem a compliment to the women, or a means ofsatisfying the male desire resulting in it being highly offensive tofeminists. It is certain that Donne seems to be enjoying himself ashe puts fo rwards his argument, there is no doubt it is full of cleverpersuasions, making him appear witty. But does this show that he ismore interested in this clever, witty and persuasive argument, or inhis mistress? As readers, his ingenuity has to be admired, it iscertainly a poem based on a conceit, a product of wit and humour! The poem The Flea is written in a tripartite structure well suitedto Donnes development and construction of his argument. His firststanza allows him to put forward his case, introducing the image ofthe flea and his argument. The second stanza allows him to develophis argument rapidly and the third carries out his triumphantconclusion. The pace is quick and breathless, it allows him to usehis logic, providing a twist making his persuasions all the moreemphatic. The rhyme scheme of each verse, which is aabbccddd, shows atriplet at the end of each stanza for effect and emphasis.Throughout the poem, the image of a flea is used, which is thendeveloped as the poem proceed s. At first, the image of a flea isalmost disconcerting. Fleabites were common around the Elizabethantime, it was almost a way of Elizabethan life. The vivid image of itspurple blood, and its hard, shiny black carapace body, living inthese walls of living jet is shown when Donne puts his argument inthe syllogism. When Donne puts forward his argument of suggestive murder of both himand herself if she kills the flea, the imagery in this poemintensifies. His argument shows that now his mistress and himself arejoined conjugally, as the flea now isnt just a symbol of their love, but instead a symbol of their marriage! The flea now represents boththeir wedding bed and the church. This imagery seems absurd, how cana flea represent these? His idea conjoins religious imagery alongwith the flea showing the argument to be elevated and daring. Donnealso uses the image of the flea for deliberate exaggeration, ludicrously stating that to kill the flea would be a sin, a murder.Religious imagery becom es apparent in this stanza, references tosacrilege are made, with echoes of another triple identification:the three persons of the Holy Trinity. Donne here shows his despairas he makes connotations of self murder and three sinnes in killingthree. It is certain that his bold use of religious imagery based onthe imagery of the flea is shocking and emphasises his confidence andwit to make such claims, adding effectiveness to his argument.Donne shows he is not afraid to combine the sacred with the profane,as an imagery based on the Elizabethan pun to die becomes apparent. Thepun, meaning to experience an orgasm is ironic, this of course is whathe is longing for, but shows the imagery of the flea being killed. This obscene pun is just the start of bawdy connotations we read of inthe end of stanza one: And pamperd swells with one blood made of twoApart from the obvious double entendre of the word swells and theerotic overtones in this sentence, the imagery of religion is comparedto the obs cene. The language throughout this poem is colloquial; the lexis ispredominantly the lexis of everyday life, deliberately earthy anddirect. This is shown in the first line of the poem as Donne openswith an imperative, Mark. The poem, which is a dramatic monologue, suggests that there is an implied listener by the use of questions andactions shown in the poem showing a sense of living and realpresence. He occasionally uses a very condensed structure, resultingin an elliptical syntax, words are deliberately left out for effect. His frequent use of monosyllables and commands are also used for theeffect of his argument. Donne takes a risk with experimentedsubjects, imagery and language in The Flea. The poem is notconventional nor is it contemporary. This is shown in the rhythmicscheme and the variety of tone Donne implies, both of which areimportant to the imagery in the poem. The poem Song is very different compared to the poem The Flea.John Donne writes both, although they each take on a very differentapproach to the woman the poem is written about and how the argumentis developed. The poem Song belongs to a type of poem called a valediction, translating as saying goodbye, written around the time he wasleaving for the continent and had to say goodbye to his wife Anne. The poem is tender and sincere, his wife is reluctant to let him go,the tone is heartfelt and passionate. It has a lyrical quality, likea song.Once again, like in The Flea, there is the strong presence of animplied listener. The poem this time does not begin with a harshimperative, there is a more direct address opening: Sweetest love I do not goFor weariness of thee. The use of thee and thy throughout the poem helps to sustain thepresence of that listener. The argument in this poem is entirely different from the bawdy conceitthe poem The Flea is based on. The tripartite structure is not usedin Song, his intellectual argument is strong throughout the fivestanzas the poem consists of. The five-verse form all ows Donne to showhis complex and metrical diversity. His passion and logic are fusedtogether; he is pleading desperately with his wife to accept thenecessity of his journey. The poem shows a variety in the argument, but unlike the use of imagery shown in the poem The Flea, the use isnot as frequent. Quite frequently Donne makes an analogy, andcompares himself to the sun, implying a central theme of the suncomparing it to his wife and that just like the Sun, he will tooreturn. There is a comparison to the Greek mythology sun God calledPhaeton: But believe that I shall makeSpeedier journeys, since I takeMore wings and spurs than he.By Donne comparing himself to the winged horse-god who was said tocarry the sun across the sky in a chariot, Donne is showingreassurance to his wife. He is providing a myth to help back up hisargument by saying that he will make a speedier journey back to herthan Phaeton can. From the start of the poem Song, it is clear that Donnes attitudeto love and women i s entirely different to this in The Flea. Theargument throughout the poem is entirely different to The Flea, itshows that Song is a poem of passion and heartfelt love. Bawdy, sexual connotations are absent, Donne does not feel lust.In verse one, Donne is reassuring his lover that his departure issimply a practice for their departure and that there is no otherreason for him going away. By him reassuring her that there is noother woman, that he is not desiring for someone else or that he lovesher any less than he did the previous day, it shows compassion andrespect, something very different from in the poem The Flea. Likein The Flea Donne shows persuasion here, but the level of persuasionin each poem is very different.Verse two depends on a clever comparison between him and the sun; thesun is personified for his argument. Just as the sun returns each dayto shine and give light, he himself will return to his wife. Thisshows incentive, he is willing to spur his wife on, by giving hersome thing logical to think of.Verse three is again logical; Donne has combined passion and logictogether in this poem. Donne is showing how his wife is feeling, heunderstands her and can relate to her, something which cannot be saidabout his attitude to the mistress in the other poem. His wife isfeeling miserable, she is extremely upset and is making the situationmuch worse than it is by dwelling on it. Donne starts to use tenderemotional blackmail in the end of this verse, and continues into versefour. He says that if she cannot control herself and she is going tocarry on being as upset, then she is making him even more upset thanshe is. Here he shows compassion, he can understand why his wife isupset, he knows it is natural, but he cannot bear seeing her in suchdistress. When thou sighst, thou sighst not wind, but sighst my soul awayI think that this shows true love, he does not want to see her in hercurrent state and so he figures out that if he says it will make himeven more subdued, she will eventually come round for both his andhers sake. The final verse again shows Donnes love for his wife. He showsreassurance, showing that even though they may be apart for a littlewhile, they will always have each other in each others hearts, andthat they will never really be parted. His final argument ofpersuasion is that they dont really need the physical presence, aslong as there is the matter of trust then he will return to her oncemore.Overall, by the structure and language used in Song, the poem isvery consoling and reassuring. Compared to The Flea, it is verydifferent as the respect for the women the two poems are written fordiffer enormously. Indeed both poems are extremely clever andlogical, with well thought out ideas for argument and persuasion, andare full of wit and clever analogies. However, Song shows adifferent side to John Donnes character than The Flea presents, heappears more softer and respectful, consoling and loving than when heappears bawdy and obscene , shallow and disrespectful. .u64721ada1e47f88359f29fb767b7d181 , .u64721ada1e47f88359f29fb767b7d181 .postImageUrl , .u64721ada1e47f88359f29fb767b7d181 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u64721ada1e47f88359f29fb767b7d181 , .u64721ada1e47f88359f29fb767b7d181:hover , .u64721ada1e47f88359f29fb767b7d181:visited , .u64721ada1e47f88359f29fb767b7d181:active { border:0!important; } .u64721ada1e47f88359f29fb767b7d181 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u64721ada1e47f88359f29fb767b7d181 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u64721ada1e47f88359f29fb767b7d181:active , .u64721ada1e47f88359f29fb767b7d181:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u64721ada1e47f88359f29fb767b7d181 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u64721ada1e47f88359f29fb767b7d181 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u64721ada1e47f88359f29fb767b7d181 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u64721ada1e47f88359f29fb767b7d181 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u64721ada1e47f88359f29fb767b7d181:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u64721ada1e47f88359f29fb767b7d181 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u64721ada1e47f88359f29fb767b7d181 .u64721ada1e47f88359f29fb767b7d181-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u64721ada1e47f88359f29fb767b7d181:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Marine Corps Uniform In The 21st Century Essay We will write a custom essay on Your Name specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now
